Dental students are expected to recognize and effectively treat dental diseases
that stipulate the knowledge and skills acquired during their professional education.
Safe and effective treatment of these diseases requires an understanding of and,
at times, modifying the patient’s behavior to care. This program focuses on knowledge
of the scientific basis of behavior guidance and skills in communication, empathy,
tolerance, cultural sensitivity, and flexibility which are a pivotal requisite to
proper implementation of treatment plan. Behavior guidance is the process by which
dental surgeon help patients identify appropriate and inappropriate behavior, learn
problem solving strategies, and develop impulse control, empathy, and self-esteem.
Behavioural Sciences and Personality Development Program is a continuum of
interaction involving the dental student, the dental team and the patient. Its goals
are to establish effective communication, alleviate fear and anxiety of public speaking,
build self confidence, empower with leadership qualities and promote a positive
attitude toward oral health care. .
